A walk in soft light
Overcast light can make small differences in a familiar view easier to notice.
Begin with broad color
From an established path, look at the large areas of sky, water and land. On an overcast day, the boundaries may feel less dramatic than in direct sunlight. Write the colors you see rather than the colors you expect. A gray sea can contain several distinct tones in one view.
Notice the near details
Look at a railing, a path edge or dune grasses visible from the route. Soft light can reduce strong shadows and reveal textures differently. Choose a subject that is comfortably within view. There is no need to move into an inaccessible place simply because its surface would make an attractive picture.
Compare with another visit
Use the same viewing point on a different suitable day. Describe which edges and textures stand out under the changed light. Keep weather and time in the note so that the comparison has context. A familiar walk becomes richer when you have a few different descriptions of its ordinary conditions.
